See this cute kid here. He's my brother :) and he just got his mission call . . . to Ghana, AFRICA!! How crazy is that!! He's going English speaking, and he reports to the Ghana MTC on April 5th. So first off, who even knew Ghana had an MTC. And second, wow. Just wow. Bradley is going to be an amazing missionary, simply because he has drive. This kid can do anything he sets his mind to.
Even though he's only technically been my brother since June, I love this kid. This week I realized how much I was going to miss him. And if you're wondering, that amount is a lot. My heart might break a little bit when I have to say goodbye. Who knew that in such a short period of time you could come to care about people so stinkin' much. I guess the power of love and family is pretty strong. Even though it will be sad, there is a piece of me that is really excited to get to send him packages and letters. Unfortunately I just checked on the USPS website, and their flat rate box is like $60 . . . and seeing as we're poor college students we'll see how often that can happen. Hopefully at least a couple of times :)
Watching Bradley open his mission call brought up a lot of emotions for me. Before I got married, going on a mission was in my list of things to do. I had actually planned on leaving this January . . . crazy, huh?!? I guess we can never know what life really has in store for us. No matter how planned out we have our life, God ultimately knows where we will be and how we're going to end up. A little part of me is sad for that adventure I'll never get to have, for the experiences I can't really share in or comprehend. Every time there is a get together and mission stories start being shared, I'll have to silently listen I guess. But one thing I'm learning (quite slowly) is that we each have our own adventures to experience.
My adventure isn't going to include serving a mission at the age of 21, but my adventure is still pretty grand. There aren't many people who can say they got married as young as me, and trust me, marriage is especially an adventure when you're super young. Dan and I could potentially celebrate our 60 to 70 year wedding anniversaries. And I'm sure their aren't many people anywhere in the world who can say that. (For our 70th wedding anniversary I'd be 90, he'd be 92. Lets just hope we live long lives :)
Anyway, I'm so excited for Bradley!! I told Dan today we'd have to go pick him up in Ghana in two years :) hehehe, that would be so much fun! He's going to be amazing
P.S. For other news: Its snowing hardcore today. Yuck. I'm not quite ready for full-blown winter yet.
We're going to be unpacking our apartment all weekend, so hopefully I'll have some pictures to post.
I'm currently applying to law schools. Another adventure is about to begin :)
