This picture was taken in November 2007 at my grandma's 80th birthday party. I was in the beginning of my sophomore year of high school. I got my hair bobbed shortly after. Chin length, a-line, stacked up in the back. Ever since then I've had my hair pretty short. Actually my hair right now touches my shoulders, probably for the first time since then. I'm debating getting my hair cut short again. What do you all think? Here is my debate: should I go back to the short bob, or should I just get it trimmed and keep growing it out. I can never decide what to do with it.
Anyway, I was fifteen when this picture was taken. Mariah would be twelve. Ha, oh man. Looking back now I was quite the nerdy fifteen year-old. I loved school (well, I always have, so I guess I'm still a nerd), I played piano and violin, I didn't play a single sport and barely attended them as a spectator either. Let's see what else do I remember . . . I was taking combined AP US History and AP English Language from Bokern and Zuiker. Holy smokes, that was like my favorite class of all time. Bokern and Zuiker worked well together, and it was fun to read books based on what we were learning in history class. I was also taking German for the third year in a row (started in 8th grade).
Ahh, my hair in this picture. It makes me laugh when I think about what I used to do to try to get it curly. So Mariah's is naturally that curly, mine took a lot more work. First, I'd put as much gel as possible in my hair. It would make it all crunchy and stringy, but not curly. More of just an awkward wave. I'd then use a curling iron to get the pieces to curl. Holy smokes, talk about a production!
Haha, looking back, I love how awkward and unsure I was. Junior High and High School are the best because you figure out so much about yourself! Likes, dislikes, interests, hobbies...all types of things. Even things like how to fix your hair, or the fact that you should shower everyday (yeah peeps...that was me in middle school. Luckily I figured it out eventually!) Maybe this is part of the reason I want to teach... Maybe I can help some awkward little 15 year old with crazy hair find what interests her and get excited about learning. Then again, maybe not.
