Engineering Softball Game

Every year at BYU the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department has a faculty-student softball game. We went last year and had a lot of fun, so this year we put it on our bucket list as a must-do item!! The game was this morning, and we had a great time!! Last year only like 10 students showed up, but this year there was a huge turnout! So big that we had to have two games going! Dan and I ended up not even playing the faculty team.

We had some pretty good people on our team. One kid hit the ball out of the park and it hit a car . . . let's just say home-run! It was pretty cool. Dan had some great hits too! He is so into sports and just loves playing them! He's got a pretty good arm! Everyone just kept hitting the balls so far into outfield. I was impressed!

I was the only girl who played softball. There were a fair amount of girls that showed up (probably 8 or more) but nobody played. For me sitting there would just be boring. Plus I played softball in seventh and eighth grade. That in no way makes me good at it, but I know I can hit the ball and have a shot at getting on base. Dan and I had a great time playing! The field was so muddy because of the rain, there were even some pretty big puddles in the infield. One of these happened to be right next to home plate. One time when I was up to bat I got a good chunk of the ball on my swing. I got excited because up until then my hits had been weak-sauce. I knew I could get to the base before the ball did. I took a step and immediately my back foot slipped in the mud. I wiped out, hit my hands and knee pretty good. I jumped up and headed towards the base, but by that time there was no way. I was so bummed! And slightly embarrassed, but I felt better since everyone was slipping and sliding everywhere. Fortunately though the next time I was up to bat I got on base, and eventually got home and got a point for our team!!

After the game was over the Engineering Department had a cook out. There were hamburgers and hot dogs and lots of food!! It was such a fun way to start the Saturday!
The whole group - four teams total.

Unfortunately though because we went to the game this morning, Dan is at work now. He usually works on Saturday mornings (6am-12), but his job is really flexible. They basically told him to come in whenever he wants and work his 6 hours during the day. We had a blast at the game, but after we got home Dan left quickly so he could be there by noon. Now I won't get to see him until 6 :( Sad. Day. The only things that makes this ok is that I have a house to clean, homework to do, and obviously a blog to update :) So I can keep myself mostly busy!! I sure do love that boy!
